Technical Bulletin – Micro System Leads

We have become aware of problems with some of the coiled leads fitted to Micro System Headsets and some of the straight headset leads fitted to Radio/Power Interface Units.

Some of these leads have been breaking down internally causing crackling and interference during use.

Updated 22-08-03

Quality Problem:

The problem is the result of some of the inner wire cores being stressed during the manufacture of the cable; this has weakened the wires which can then break during use. This problem is affecting approximately ten percent of recent production.

Equipment Affected:

  • Micro System Headset
  • Micro System Radio/Power Interface Unit

Date of Manufacture:

Micro System Headsets manufactured between July 2002 and July 2003 may be affected.

Radio/Power Interface Units manufactured between January 2002 and July 2003 may be affected.

Version Labeling:

Only equipment which is labeled as follows is affected by this problem:

Micro System Headsets (Versions ED 2401-4 and ED 2401-5)

Micro System Radio/Power Interface Unit (Version ED 4821-2)

Additional Information:

Equipment which is used heavily in a flying school environment is most likely to be affected.

The suspect leads have been redesigned and all new headsets and interface units are now fitted with new type leads.

This problem is very noticeable and there should be little doubt if an item of equipment requires servicing. If this is the case, the equipment should be returned to Lynx Avionics Ltd so that the faulty leads can be replaced with the new type leads.
