During the first quarter of 2005, Icom introduced two new airband radios: the Icom A6 and the Icom A24.

These radios are only available is certain countries.

The A6 and A24 radios work from a lower voltage than previous Icom airband radios which may cause a compatibility problem with some existing Lynx products.

Compatibility Problem:

Lynx products which are set to work with the later type Icom airband radios (Lynx Avionics Radio Type B) may be connected to the Icom A6 and A24 radios. However, some equipment may not work or some features may be compromised.

Equipment Affected:

The following Lynx products (Type B) can be used with the Icom A6 and A24 radios.

• Micro System Radio Adapter
• Micro System Radio Interface Unit
• Micro System Radio/Power Interface Unit
• Relai System Headset.

Radio Adapter:

Radio Adapters (Type B) manufactured before January 2005 are not compatible and will not work with the Icom A6 and A24 radios.

Radio Adapters (Type B) manufactured after January 2005 are compatible with the Icom A6 and A24 radios; compatible Radio Adapters (Type B) are marked with a yellow band to indicate that they are the latest version.

Radio Interface Unit:

All Radio Interface Units(Type B) manufactured since June 1995 are compatible with the Icom A6 and A24 radios.

Radio/Power Interface Unit:

All Radio/Power Interface Units(Type B) manufactured since June 1995 are compatible with the Icom A6 and A24 radios.

Important Note:

The Icom A6 and A24 radios are not designed to be powered in use from 12 Volts and the 12 Volt power connector on the Radio/Power Interface will not connect to these radios. However, the A6 and A24 can be supplied with power from a Radio/Power Interface with the addition of a Radio Power Adapter 11V13. The Radio Power Adapter 11V13 must not be used whilst an Alkaline battery pack is fitted to the radio.

Relai System Headset:

All Relai System Headsets fitted with a 'Type B' Radio Module (Icom A3/A4/A5/A6/A22/A23/A24) are compatible with the Icom A6 and A24 radios.

Additional Information:

In short, Radio Adapters (Type B) manufactured before January 2005 will not work with the Icom A6 and A24 radios. All Radio/Power Interface Units (Type B) will work with these radios but require an additional Radio Power Adapter 11V13 to supply the radio with power.
